P4P Peers have joined cross-party parliamentarians to call for Rishi Sunak to honour the government’s pledge to provide £11.6bn in climate funding by 2026 to poorer nations least responsible for climate change.
The UK’s commitment forms part of a wider agreement made by wealthy nations to make $100bn available annually to support climate action in developing countries. The commitment was ratified in 2015 but is yet to be delivered in full.
The government confirmed earlier this week it will not drop or scale back the UK’s commitment to spend £11.6bn to support the most climate-affected countries. Cross-party Peers and MPs remain concerned about how the finance will be sourced and scaled up in time to ensure this vital commitment is upheld.
