Peers for the Planet sister group launches in the Canadian Senate

Updated: Nov 15, 2023

Senators for Climate Solutions officially launched in the Canadian Parliament last week for Senators who want to address the critical issue of climate change. The non-partisan group is modelled on Peers for the Planet and brings together a diverse group of Senators to work together to bring forward and advocate for climate solutions. Our Co-Chair Baroness Hayman was delighted to provide a welcome message at the launch event. As the House of Lords Climate and Biodiversity Action Group, Peers for the Planet looks forward to working with the group to motivate and inspire each other and create a lasting partnership for global collaboration and leadership.

“It is an enormous pleasure to be able to send a message of support and congratulations to our sister group in the Canadian Senate for their official launch. We really do have a responsibility to tackle the threats of climate change and biodiversity loss and persuade our fellow legislators that those threats can be turned into opportunities. Congratulations on what you have achieved so far and best wishes for what I know is to come".

Co-Chair of Peers for the Planet, Baroness Hayman

“We believe that the threat of climate change is of such a scale and urgency that the efforts of experts need to be enhanced by support from a wider, more broadly based group. Members of Senators for Climate Solutions aim to draw on their combined diversity of experience, power and influence to do what we can to tackle climate change and biodiversity loss in Canada and abroad.”

Senators for Climate Solutions co-chairs, The Hon. Mary Coyle & Hon. Stan Kutcher
