On 20 May Lord Bird introduced his Private Members Bill. The Second reading is scheduled to take place on 25 June.

This Bill, which is based on the Welsh Future Generations Act, seeks to embed long-termism, prevention, and the interests of future generations at the heart of policymaking. It would — among other things — see: the creation of national wellbeing goals; that any proposed change in public expenditure, taxation or policy should be accompanied by a future generations impact assessment; and the establishment of a Future Generations Commission that would have the responsibility of holding the Government to account and act as a guardian for the interests of future generations.
